Quitting Sugar

Shayleen shares with us her quitting sugar success story and how using Natvia 100% natural sweetener helped her on her new healthy and weight loss journey.

“In September 2012, with a milestone birthday looming, I decided it was time to get my life back. I needed to address my very hefty weight issue as I was categorised as ‘morbidly obese’.  I cut out gluten, sugar, salt, processed and high carbohydrate foods, and included exercise six days per week.  I was already dairy free, so the transition wasn’t that hard!  I lost 50 kgs, and went from a size 18-20 to a wonderfully healthy weight and size for me.

In November 2014 my life took another turn and my battle with breast cancer began; mastectomy, reconstruction, chemotherapy and other drugs, the extreme low emotions, hair loss, tiredness, the list goes on and on.

Why have I talked about both these events in my life?  Eating played a major part in both events.

The weight loss was helped by my substitution of regular sugar to Natvia; I didn’t feel that I was deprived of sugar at all.  I happily and successfully made the substitution without the consequences of additional calories, and eventually, for me, that desire for sugary foods just went.  My one treat these days is homemade Chocolate Brownies that are gluten and dairy free!  I initially thought that cutting out sugar would be hard – it was very easy with Natvia!  I also cut out processed foods.

During my breast cancer journey, my counsellor advised to continue my healthy eating as this would, in the long run, aid in my recovery.  Looking back now, I am so pleased I followed his advice!

It is very important for me to continue my healthy lifestyle now; two and a half years later after my breast cancer diagnosis, I am finally on the other side and proudly looking back at where I have been”.
